Part of the reason is cooking takes too much time. Even my favorite Sambal and Kerabu (my first Kerabu) take way longer time to prepare if I do it with Mortar and Pestle. On the other hand, I could use the blender but it wouldn't taste as good.
So usually I just munch on anything I could take and eat on the spot without any preparation like Fresh Fruits, Nuts, Dried Fruits and Grated Coconut. If I need a bigger portion then I go for Salad. Soup just doesn't cut it for me. Even though it can taste quite good, it just not very filling at all.
So the grocery bill gets way higher than normal. Mom said it because the Nuts are pricey here in Malaysia. It's true. Look at this list:
- Jusco - Apricot Kernel (150 g) RM 6.50
- Jusco - Sunflower Seed (160 g) RM 5.50
And these are the cheapest ones. The others are around RM10 - RM 20.
There are Peanut, Dal Bean,
Fruits are hard to keep especially the soft ones like Pear, Banana, and Papaya. Citrus can be stored longer but I prefer to use them for flavor in Kerabu, Soup and Salad instead of munching on them. I wonder what kind of fruits than can be stored for 1-2 weeks without going bad?
