Permissions Oh Permissions

Now I know why network administrators always sing about permissions.

It's fun to learn something new, it's fun to tweak the servers but it is scary at how much power I held in hand whether to make it or break it!

If I make it, the roaming profile works like it should.

If I break it, sooner or later mission critical files are saved in temporary profiles and the next time the user log in....

Windows cannot load the profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

BAM!!! The files are loss forever!

It's really annoying... So this is what I did to fix it:
  • I reset the profile permission to: SYSTEM and administrators to FULL CONTROL for This Folder, Subfolders and Files only, CREATOR OWNER to FULL CONTROL for Subfolders and Files only and group_staff to SPECIAL access for This Folder only.
  • It works great on Windows 7 but users on Windows XP still get the error.
  • So, I changed CREATOR OWNER to FULL CONTROL for The Folder, Subfolders and Files only and it works great on both except..... for some reason, it will never save the background wallpaper XP users set for their desktop.
  • I don't know what to do next regarding this problem. Even my senior who is a wizard in network related stuff thinks it is a weird problem.
Now, I have no idea what to do...
