The Disadvantages of Wearing Handbags

This article is definitely not about me. I hate handbags because it is just plain inconvenient.

Do you know how vulnerable women are for wearing handbags? Snatch thieves love to attack them because it's just to easy to snatch on the foot, on motorcycle or on anything. My mom tends to put her handbag on the next seat while driving. There was one time she forgot to lock the door while driving, and so the snatch thieves on motorcycle just opened the door AND able to snatch it before rushing away within seconds. I know some of it is her own fault but if she didn't use handbag.... it's just won't be as easy for the thieves.

Next, do you know how many people I know who are plain forgetful of the things they have in their hands? That includes me too by the way. I know for sure that I cannot carry handbags by hand or I'll miss it somewhere while talking, walking, shopping, visiting friends and et cetera. And yet I am very lucky as I've never lose anything since I always got it back unlike one of my female friend who keep loosing her handphones and never get those back.

Okay, so handbags can be carried on your shoulder. But do you know how tiring it is to keep it hanging steady there? It keeps sliding down my arm. I can't carry on for long either or I'll hurt my shoulder. So I could switch between my left shoulder and right shoulder every hour or so but again, that is another nuisance.

Not only that, I notice that when one tend to use only one shoulder, the left or right shoulder could become higher that the other. On some women, it looks very noticeable and that just look plain wrong or weird. Of course if  you switch between the left shoulder and right shoulder every hour or so this is unlikely to happen but still, it's a hard thing to remember thus a nuisance.

Another inconvenient thing about handbags is that you have to put them away while eating, paying, driving, taking notes, answering the call of nature (look up on Google if you don't know what that means) and so on. Sometimes when I eat in a diner with 3 other friends, the table is just enough for our plates. Most women I know would put their handbags on their laps.

Oh, sure... then whenever I got up to take some more food I have to carry both handbag and the plate which is a real pain in the ass if you have ever tried to scoop up food while the handbag keep sliding down your arm or the handbag down your arm keep threating to knock of other dishes, plates, and things down. Or, I could leave the handbag on my chair with my friend's supervision but if I eat alone, that is not an option. Same goes with going to the toilet.

In other words, wearing a handbag need you to be alert all the time and a lot of rearrangements while moving around. Just because saddlebags are bigger and more 'masculine' looking, that doesn't change the fact that it is as inconvenient as handbags.
  • You still need to remove it while eating, paying, driving, et cetera.
  • You still need someone to supervise it when you're doing those things.
  • It is still as easy to steal especially when removed from one's body.
  • It makes your shoulder looks weird if you didn't alternate the shoulders.
That is why I opt for a good coat with lots of pockets instead :P
