Don't kill worm with salt!

Just now, I saw a big worm in the bathroom/toilet. I didn't know what to do. I don't know why but my first instinct is to kill it because it's gross and looks dangerous (imagine it crawling into you when you're sleeping... stupid I know). So I put lots of salt on it.

When it almost died, I just realized I don't have any real reason to kill it. Besides, I just remembered that mom has said that she would like to put the worms if we ever find it in our bathroom/toilet onto her garden. But I felt that it was too late. I don't know what to think or to do. I don't even know how to move it from here to the garden (or anywhere). It's just too gross. So I put more salt on it to kill it as quickly as possible (mercy death?).

It finally stopped wriggling and died. I feel guilty. There's nothing I can do for it now.

A few hours (or is it minutes? I didn't keep track of the time) later, I checked back on it. When I looked at it, suddenly I wonder what does it looks like under the salt. I still feel guilty but why waste the resource? Better use it than throw it away like nothing. That's how I show my respect to it (I know.. weird). So I took a close look at it. It looks shrivelled?

I have a bad feeling about this.. It makes me wonder why and how exactly salt kill worms. I found the answer on the Internet (duh!) and boy, do I feel sorry for the worm. I didn't know salt absorbs moisture and worm needs moisture on its body in order to breathe. Therefore, when I put the salt on the worm, it died because the salt totally absorbs water from its body which cause it to die as there is no more moisture left in its body (any living body needs it) and also stopping the worm from breathing while at it :( Sounds like a torturous death, huh?

If I had known... I still don't know what I'd do. I already realized I didn't have any reason for killing it during the final act. I guess I just panicked. Small mercy that it died quickly. I would hate to know I cause more pain to it if it had died any slower...

Oh well.. What done is done.

I just hope that next time I'll be able to just ignore it altogether and just kill the dangerous ones like those centipedes only.
